National Public Radio ran a story this morning about the impact of science funding trends on labs nationwide.
The NIH budget shot steadily upward from 1998 to 2003. That spawned great jubilation in biomedicine and a gold-rush mentality. But it didn’t last. Since 2004, the NIH budget has decreased by more than 20 percent.
The story includes an interactive graphic that allows you to view NIH funding levels by institution. Here’s the chart for Spelman. Note that most of Spelman’s grants are for education rather than biomedical research.
